The Hopewell-Prince George Friends of the Library presents Dr. Edward L. Ayers, National Humanities Medal recipient, for the Fall General Membership Program. As the U.S. nears the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, Dr. Ayers will explore how our understanding of the past shapes the present and future. Drawing from his book American Visions, he reflects on how early Americans grappled with aligning national ideals with their realities. Dr. Ayers is an award-winning historian, educator, and author. He has received major prizes for his books, teaching, and public history work, and he has served as Dean at the University of Virginia and President of the University of Richmond.
